Mishaps and Hidden Messages at G20 Summit in Buenos Aires

(Newswire.net— December 2, 2018) — Leaders of the 20 most influential nations in the world gathered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for an annual meeting. Thousands of protesters gathered as well to share a message that the world is not satisfied with their work.

Somewhere between the organizer’s mishaps and the straight forward messages that were being conveyed sometimes even non-verbally lays the truth that is funny to some and worrying to others.

Cameras captured the moment that the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s airplane arrived and a full welcoming ceremony with a red carpet and marching band greeted the dear guest. When the plane door opened a member of the honor guard shouted the formal introduction for President Xi and the music started… only it wasn’t President Xi at the door.

The member of President Xi staff who first appeared on stairs rushed down to explain what the Chinese President looks like. Once the real guest of honor appeared, the ceremony started from the beginning.

At least the Chinese President got a formal greeting, unlike the French President Emmanuel Macron, who was only greeted by airport’s staff. The red carpet was there but as the French President stepped out of the airplane he looked around in disbelief and shook hands with airport staff on his way downstairs.

Some presidents were greeted without the carpet but with a line of dignitaries to shake hands with. For French President Emmanuel Macron it was a couple of airport workers to shake hands with. Ironically, the men he greeted were wearing bright yellow visibility vests, same as protesters in France who recently had clashes with police in violent outbreaks against Macron’s economy reforms.

The presidents of the US and Russia apparently haven’t even said hello or shaken each other’s hands at the G20 summit, Russia Today reports. The planned meeting of the two leaders was canceled last minute by the US President Donald Trump, because of the incident at the Kerch strait. But as the two almost crossed paths, cameras captured their glances and smiles, which indicated that all is good between East and West, and the ‘show’ must go on.

Vladimir Putin has confirmed that he exchanged a few words with Donald Trump during dinner at the G20 summit about the incident in the Kerch Strait, but Donald Trump was adamant in his own view of what happened.

Referring to the three vessels seized by the Russian coast guard while attempting to pass from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov through Russian waters, Trump tweeted he called off the meeting because “the ships and sailors have not been returned to Ukraine from Russia.”

According to some sources, the Ukrainian President Poroshenko never did anything that is not approved or constructed by Washington. Provocations against Russia just before the G20 meeting was planned to provide a ‘reason’ for Trump to avoid talks with Putin.

Dan Kovalik, professor of human rights at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law, told RT that Trump might be feeling pressured not to look like he’s “colluding” with Putin.

“It is certainly to avoid bad publicity. As you’ve noted, last time he met with Putin somehow he was seen as a traitor. That’s how crazy things have gotten in this country,” he told RT.

According to John Dean, former White House counsel to President Richard Nixon, the timing is no accident, ”It forces Trump to confront Putin. If he fails to do so he is admitting guilt,” he told Politico.
