(Newswire.net — September 1, 2022) —Finding ways to connect with your kids can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you’ve spent a lot of the summer together. There are a few fun hobbies that almost all kids enjoy and they can be a great way to create some really special memories with your kids. When your children are grown and living their own lives, they’ll look back on the little moments you shared together fondly, so be sure to create opportunities to create wonderful memories together. Here are my suggestions for my top 5 hobbies you should try with your kids.

1. Stunt Scootering
I love any hobbies that are going to get children outside, far away from screens and to be a little more active. Stunt scootering is a great choice because children as young as two can learn to ride a scooter, so it can be something for the entire family. All you’ll need to get started is a stunt scooter for every family member, helmets, especially for young riders and a desire to get out there and enjoy the last few months of good weather.

2. Baking
This is such a fun activity to do with kids of all ages, even toddlers, because then they can enjoy the fruits of their labor. I suggest finding easy recipes to start and letting your kids have as much independence as possible. Just be mindful it will probably be messy, it will probably be chaotic, but you’re teaching your children really great skills and giving them independence in the kitchen which will be something they’ll carry with them for life. In my experience children also eat things they’ve prepared themselves with more gusto, which can be great for picky eaters.

3. Origami
If your child struggles to stay focused and isn’t really big on quiet activities, you might be surprised by how much they love origami. All you need is some sheets of paper. If you can find a Japanese store nearby that offers actual origami paper, all the better, but if not you can just use standard paper. Check out tutorials on Youtube for some cool origami you can do together, and you can learn alongside each other.

4. Gardening
This is another one of those practical life skills that can help give your children a lot of life skills. Food just tastes differently when you’ve grown it yourself and it can be a great way to introduce more fruits and vegetables into the palettes of picky eaters. There are some things that are relatively easy to grow that most kids love such as cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and even lettuce.

5. Recycling
We all have a responsibility to try to leave our planet in the best condition we can. That includes minimizing our impact on the environment, helping to recycle things we use and to minimize food wastage. Teaching your kids about recycling and why it’s important is a great skill to learn about together. You can even go to a local beach or park and clean up litter together. This is a good activity that helps instill a sense of responsibility into your kids.

Finding ways to connect with your kids shouldn’t feel too difficult. I hope one of these suggestions feels like a good fit for you and your family, and helps you connect with your children.
