(Newswire.net — December 28, 2017) Woodbridge, VA — With 2017 winding up, now is the time to make sure to not leave any money in your flexible spending account (FSA). Nearly 29 million U.S. workers have one, and many are unaware that money left unspent in it can be forfeited. If you are unsure whether you have one or not, check with your company.

Those with FSAs have through 11:50 pm on December 31, 2017, to use the money in their account, before they risk losing it all. However, given the wide variety of FSA-eligible products and services, you should have no reason to leave money in your account.

Here are a few ways to make the most of your FSA before you run out of time:

  1. Replenish your first aid kit with a fresh supply of bandages, gauze, wraps, shears, tourniquets, analgesics, ointments and whatever else your kit may need. Conversely, buy a premade first aid kit, packed with all the items your home, office and/or car needs.
  2. Buy items needed before, during, and even after your pregnancy, such as home pregnancy tests, prenatal vitamins, pads, breastfeeding pumps, and other prenatal/baby care necessities.
  3. Stock up for your next holiday in the sun with items for the beach. You can purchase high-end sun care beauty products like primers and moisturizers that have broad spectrum protection and an SPF of 15+. Of course, this means regular sunscreen is FSA-eligible. Don’t neglect your lips, and pick up some lip balm.
  4. Leaving on a jet plane? Orthopedic neck pillows are FSA-eligible. If you’re going on a cruise, look out for motion sickness aids.
  5. Many high-tech products are FSA eligible, such as blood pressure monitors, defibrillators, TENS machines, glucose meters, vibrating arthritis gloves, etc.
  6. Having some trouble getting around? Larger ticket items you may need, like wheelchairs and walkers, are FSA eligible.
  7. Get by with a little support. Support in the form of braces and elastic supports, shoe cushions, arch supports, orthopedic shoe insoles.
  8. Aching limbs also get a little relief with hot or cold therapy packs and kinesiology tape.
  9. Don’t be a sight for sore eyes. Shop for prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses, contact lenses and eye care items such as contact lens solution and eyeglass repair kits. Now is a good time to stock up on spare pairs.

If you are unsure of whether an item is FSA-eligible or not, be sure to check with your employer or health care provider.
