(Newswire.net — February 14, 2021) — Handguns are fast becoming a necessary defensive tool in today’s world, as seen with the increased purchase of 80% lowers. Even our women are getting guns for their self-defense and security. Women generally have more miniature builds, which manifests with reduced arm strength and compact hands. This nature forces them to consider many more factors before selecting their preferred gun type. There are numerous factors to consider with guns, including caliber, size, recoil, weight, aesthetics, reliability, magazine size, and safety features. However, even with these considerations, it is widely believed that the most popular and appropriate guns for women are semi-automatics and revolvers.
Semi-automatics
Semi-automatic handguns typically have a detachable magazine that fits into the gun’s grip. These magazines allow them to hold sizable amounts of rounds. It utilizes some of the energy from the weapon discharging to chuck out used cartridges and equip the chamber with another one.
These guns tend to be compact, making them easy to handle both when used and not in use. The trigger fitted on these handguns is easy to pull, allowing the user to quickly fire multiple rounds. Semi-automatics are known to require special handling and maintenance to keep them in peak performance. This process can be a nuisance for ladies who may find a handgun’s mechanics dull and uninteresting.
Some of the most appropriate calibers for these semi-automatics include the 9mm, .380, .40 S&W, and the .45 ACP. Guns of these calibers are available in compact sizes that allow for easy carrying and concealing. These guns are popular as they are easy to reload, have a soft trigger, and their recoil tends to be minimal.
Revolvers
These are pistols designed to have cylindrical revolving bullet chambers that allow for firing multiple shots before you are required to reload. Typically, these cylindrical chambers can hold either 5 or 6 bullets at a time. These chambers are brought into alignment with the firing chamber when the trigger is pulled. Given their simplistic design, very few technicalities can occur during firing, making it the ideal handgun for easy use.
Revolvers do not require as much cleaning and maintenance as the more intricately designed semi-automatics. They are easy to use and maintain, making them extremely convenient for ladies who are not intrigued by the machine’s mechanics. Their nature makes them the best consideration for self-defense.
Revolvers hold very few rounds, given their simple designs. They also tend to be more bulky and heavy in comparison to semi-automatic handguns. Their only safety feature is seen in how the trigger tends to be long and difficult to squeeze. The most common revolver models with women include the .357 and the .38 special, which are considered the handiest defensive tools. Others may go for the 9mm, .45, or the .40 S&W.
Revolvers vary in action type, hence the availability of Single-Action, Double Action, and Double Action Only revolvers. The Single Action revolver requires the user to manually cock the hammer using either their thumb or another hand. This action causes the cylinder to rotate and place the next chamber in line with the barrel and hammer for firing. This action has to be repeated before the gun can fire again.
A double-action revolver combines these two actions into one, pulling the trigger. This pull causes the hammer to be pulled back as the cylindrical chamber rotates the next round into place. Pulling harder on the trigger causes the hammer to be released and fires the round in the aligned chamber. With this gun, users can manually cock the hammer or let the gun do it for them. On the other hand, double action only revolvers have no latch to allow the user to pull back the hammer. They can only be fired with the trigger, just as in the Double-Action Revolver.
