How To Get Better Sleep

1. Ditch the Electronics

In this day and age, cell phones, video games and Netflix are a common bedtime ritual. Unfortunately, the blue light that our electronics give off can inhibit our sleeping pattern. Instead of your brain trying to relax and allow you to sleep, it’s being distracted by the glowing screens. Make it a habit to turn off your electronics about an hour or two before your intended bedtime, and instead, get in the habit of reading a book before bed.

 

2. Get Regular Exercise

Working out regularly can aid in helping you get to sleep as long as it’s not within three or four hours of hitting the sack. Going to the gym or getting in a run early in the day helps your body get into rest-mode at night time. You can also do yoga or other meditation exercises before bed to really calm your mind and reduce stress, which in turn, helps your brain get ready for sleep.

 

3. Create A Bedtime Ritual

Getting into a routine can help greatly with sleep. Going for a walk after dinner or listening to relaxing music are both great ways to help you wind down. Also, setting a time to go to bed and sticking to that time every day can also improve your sleep. Once you nail down a routine, your body and brain will automatically look forward to the little rituals you’ve started, and therefore will start settling down as you continue to do them daily. 

 

4. Alternative Sleep Remedies

If you’ve tried to combat your sleeping issues for some time, there might be an underlying issue that is preventing you from getting the sleep you need. Talk to your healthcare provider about your sleep troubles so they can analyze and provide you with options to help you.Sleeping pills and other medications can be hazardous to your health, though, especially after long-term use. There are many other alternative remedies for lack of sleep which can help combat this frustration. One effective alternative is non-caffeinated tea, such as chamomile, which is a natural remedy that helps calm the nervous system and promotes sleep for insomniacs.
