(Newswire.net — March 16, 2018) — If you aren’t “in the know,” iced capps is just another name for an iced cappuccino. If you are like most Americans, you might be addicted to the taste. But what you might not be so addicted to is the cost of buying an iced cappuccino. The good news is that you can recreate your favorite iced cappuccino at home and customize it the way you want without iced capp machines– for a fraction of the cost and with very little know-how needed.
The basic ingredients of an iced capp are simple, but if you blend them all in a custom way or add your own signature to them, then you have something that is one-of-a-kind. All you need to do to make an iced capp is to combine two ounces of water, with four ounces of super-concentrated coffee, four ounces of full milk, one to two teaspoons of sugar, and ten ice cubes to make it icy enough to enjoy. If you are looking for a stronger drink, cut back on the number of ice cubes and you will be good as gold.
So how do you make the cappuccino?
To make the cappuccino, you will have to start with blending the beans. If you want a rich and strong flavor, start with Colombian beans and a coffee bean grinder. You will want to grind the beans to a fine powder. A cappuccino starts with making an espresso and then watering it down, which means that you need approximately 20 grams of coffee, and then you add to the mixture.
Make the expresso
Even if you don’t have an espresso machine, it is possible to make an espresso. You can use a stovetop moka pot. To do so, you will want to fill the reservoir with water and put the metal basket into the reservoir. Then fill the basket with ground coffee beans, twist on the lid, and tighten the reservoir lid. Heat it over medium heat till you can see the coffee filling into the reservoir top. You can also use your coffee maker to make extra-strong coffee if that is all that you have available. Expresso is about twice as concentrated as the average pot of coffee, so you will want to double the amount of coffee beans that you regularly use.
Once the espresso is done
Once you have the espresso ready to mix, you will want to steam the milk to put on top. Simply pour milk into saucepan. You will want to carefully bring it to a simmer. It’s trickier than you might think, because you don’t want to heat it to the point of scalding it. Don’t let the milk boil; just simmer it enough to heat it and make it “frothy.” To make an iced capp you need equal parts of milk and espresso and then add the foam that you need for the top.
The next step is to add the milk to the espresso that you have already made. You will want to add enough milk to double the amount of liquid. Since the mixture needs a little sweetness to become an iced capp, you will have to add in some sugar – but you have to do so when the coffee is steaming hot, or the sugar won’t dissolve. If you try to add it later after you have iced it, then the sugar will sit on the bottom and not sweeten your drink. After you add it, stir it quickly and thoroughly enough to make sure that it is thoroughly dissolved.
Chill it
If you try to add ice right away, then you are going to be fighting the ice melting too fast. To make sure that your iced capp isn’t just a watered-down cup of coffee, you have to chill the espresso first before you add the milk. Once the mixture has cooled down, add some ice and blend it. If you want an additional flavor, you can add things like hazelnut, vanilla, chocolate or caramel syrup.
If you want to have an iced capp, you don’t have to spend a fortune; you can reproduce it at home for mere pennies.
