The Future of Journalism Post-COVID-19

(Newswire.net — November 18, 2020) — COVID-19 has thrown many curveballs our way and has impacted almost everyone and every industry in some way or another. Whether it’s through lockdown or the different sectors having to take special measures to keep people safe and their businesses open, there have been some serious changes over the past year. With the whole of the United Kingdom  now in a second lockdown, this year is demonstrating that we are still very much living uncertain times.

This said, so many industries have had to adapt and become flexible in order to accommodate COVID-19 restrictions and ensure that they continue to see revenue, as well as try to maintain some normality where they can. The media is included, with journalists implementing the 2 metre rule when conducting interviews and the majority of interviews being moved online where possible. It’s at the forefront of our minds that the future of journalism, like so many other sectors, will be very different post-COVID-19.

Enhanced Online Presence

More experts for journalists will be required to ensure a seamless approach to enhancing online presence of news and media. As previously mentioned, with people working from home more and unable to see colleagues, family members and friends, a lot of sectors and businesses have moved onto an online platform. Being online not only means that you connect with more people with ease, but it means you’ve got to be seen too and have your story visible. Fortunately, there are experts for journalists who can ensure that all the equipment needed and marketing is in place to help your story to be seen and get the recognition it deserves, as well as provide high quality content even when not in the studio.

Stories and interviews will not only be posted online more than they are now, but there are less likely to be as many interviews conducted in person after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Journalists have realised the convenience of this and now more people can be reached for interviews, without the need to travel far or schedule lots of time out of busy days.

Journalists and news stories have been a key part of the pandemic; keeping everyone updated with any vaccine news, figures and of course, restrictions! This has shown the high importance of journalism over the past few months, as it has helped to join a nation and ensure that everyone is kept informed. With social media now taking a dominant role in distributing these news stories, they are reaching more people than ever before. It is looking like journalists are going to continue to be as busy as ever, as the fallout from the two lockdowns and restrictions for many industries begins to show more clearly.

Although we cannot predict exactly what the future of journalism post-COVID-19 will look like, we can be sure that the industry will shift even more so online and interviews will become less personal as they will be conducted through video calls. What do you think the future of journalism will look like?
