(Newswire.net — September 29, 2020) — Most people have heard of the Beach Boys, and if you haven’t, then we’d argue that you’ve been living under a rock! One of the most renowned bands of the Swingin’ ’60s. They continued making music all the way through until the 1980s, now that’s impressive! We’re going to break down what we believe to be the best beach boys songs of all time!
1. “God Only Knows” 1966
By far the Beach Boys’ most famous song. If you mentioned the Beach Boys to someone, they’d probably name this song. A song that describes a man’s love that is so overwhelming that only God himself can even begin to fathom it. This song features a relaxed, “good vibes only” tune with calming lyrics. We can understand why this is what is widely considered to be their greatest song.
2. “Good Vibrations” 1967
A year after “God only Knows” released, the Beach Boys came out with another fantastic song, “Good Vibrations” which really captures what you’d expect from a “hippie” song in the ’60s. The song has a psychedelic tune, which makes you feel spaced out yet upbeat. Another essential song for any of your Beach Boys or 60’s playlists!
3. “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” 1966
It’s clear to see that the Beach Boys were on a roll in the late ’60s. The same year they released “God Only Knows” they came out with this masterpiece song. The lyrics explore the story of two young lovers who dream about an adult life together, marriage and fun times, an eternal love. Of course, this song features the iconic Beach Boy style upbeat, yet “spaced out” feeling with its melodies.
4. “California Girls” 1964
One of the Beach Boys’ earlier songs that is still timeless to this day. The song follows the Beach Boys’ experience of all the different types of girls across America and their different traits. However, to the Beach Boys, none compare to the golden California girls. At the time, California was probably one of the most “progressive” states in the USA that was going through a boom. Everyone wanted to be in California because it did things so differently and wasn’t as gloomy and crowded as NYC (The better weather helped too!).
5. “Surfin’ USA” 1962
Two years into the “swingin sixties” the Beach Boys released Surfin’ USA. The US had just entered what it believed to be it’s “Golden Era” people were upbeat, the economy was booming, and teenagers were doing all new things their parents wouldn’t have ever dreamt of, just like surfing! This song captures the spirit of a new teenage rebellion during good times.
Special Mention: “Don’t Worry Baby” 1964
A more mellow and sadder tune than the Beach Boys usually sung but still a great song about a man’s insecurities in one of his most vulnerable moments until he receives the support he needs from his partner. Despite this slightly different song from the Beach Boys, it’s still a fantastic song and deserves a mention in this list.
