2017 Hurricane Record Season Is Breaking All Records

(Newswire.net — October 9, 2017) Fountain Hills, AZ —  According to the NY Times, the 2017 hurricane season is breaking all kinds of records. From the quantity of hurricanes to the severity of the storms, the Caribbean and Southern USA can’t seem to cut a break.

Near the Louisiana coast, Tropical storm Nate reported a gust of nearly 90 mph over the weekend. When the storm made landfall near the mouth of the Mississippi River, a nearby weather station clocked a gust at 74 mph.

Nate may not be a hurricane, but 74 mph winds do some serious damage.

If you get the feeling we have had an above average number of hurricanes this season, you are not mistaken. The 2017 season has been unusually active.

“I lived in Fort Walton Beach and lived through 5 hurricanes in one season. After you have been through one, you know you have to take hurricane warnings seriously. You can’t fight it, you have to get out of its way. Forget about property, the most important thing is your life and the lives of your loved ones,” stated Reality TV star, Tim Ralston.

Ralston is a prepper. His wisdom and experience was featured in the 3rd season of the Nat Geo show, Doomsday Preppers. And, while a zombie apocalypse may not be in the cards, more storms certainly are.

There have been 13 named storms so far this year and more are on the way. Only 4 other seasons since 1995 have had this quantity of severe coastal weather. After Nate thrashes its way through, just one more storm and 2017 will be in the top 15 seasons since 1851, when reliable records began.

If you don’t live near the coast, should you concern yourself?

Yes.

According to Ralston, hurricanes are only one of dozens of different scenarios, where being prepared simply makes sense.

Even a local event, overcrowded rock concert, power outage or civil protest could leave a person stranded and without resources to live… or survive.

“If you go through the steps in my book Minimalist Prepper, you’ll beat the lines and the crowds. More importantly, you won’t panic and you’ll be safe.

Panic is the one area that does more damage than anything else. “Preppers”… especially those that actually train and go through the motions are more likely to not only be safe, but help others in a time of crisis.

“It goes beyond safety, as well. Keep a backup of your most important documents and photos on a hard drive and store it in a waterproof case and create a second backup in a deposit box.

All material items can be replaced. Your life can’t.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.”

As a veteran para rescue officer in the Air Force, Ralston knows first hand what it means to survive and the benefits of even a bit of preparation. No matter where you live, being prepared may be the least expensive insurance you can get.
