(Oakland Newswire) Bay Area police agencies arrested 72 suspected pimps, prostitutes and their customers during a seven-day nationwide operation that targeted domestic child sex trafficking, the FBI announced Monday. Six victims of child sex trafficking were found during the operation, which was aimed at rescuing child victims.
In the Bay Area, Oakland police arrested 30 suspected adult prostitutes and found three child prostitutes. Hayward police arrested 12 suspected adult prostitutes and three suspected pimps. They also found two child victims. Antioch and Pittsburg police arrested a combined seven suspected adult prostitutes and three suspected pimps.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and California Department of Corrections arrested a combined seven people on suspicion of soliciting prostitutes and one suspected adult prostitute. Eleven states took part in the operation and 661 arrests were made nationwide, according to the FBI.
