“Children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) are the entrepreneurs, inventors, and game changers of today and tomorrow. We need to harness their special creativity to meet all the complex challenges we face, from economic growth to global warming.” This is the conclusion that globally renowned ADHD expert, psychiatrist Dr Edward Hallowell, will share in the UK this September following years of research into behavioural issues in children and young people.

For the first time in the UK, Dr. Hallowell will introduce his distinctive series of strength-based ADHD workshops. These are intended separately for parents, teachers, health professionals and adults previously diagnosed with ADHD.  The workshops, ‘Mastering Life with ADHD’, will be held on the 26th, 29th and 30th September and 2nd-3rd October in Richmond, Surrey.  During the one and two-day events, Dr Hallowell will outline the positive and practical strategies that can be used to manage ADHD to achieve the best possible results for the children, their parents and their teachers.

The former Harvard Medical School faculty member is considered to be one of the foremost experts in the world on ADHD. He maintains that years of classroom frustration result in shattered self-belief and diminished ambition.

“These children need positive reinforcement to make the most of their abilities, not just treatment to address their perceived shortcomings.

“It is difficult to find a highly creative person, in any field, who does not suffer from some form of challenge, be this ADHD, dyslexia or anxiety,” said Dr Hallowell.

“You name the field, you can find someone who has ADHD at the top. Children with ADHD can, and should, be made to feel like future champions rather than outsiders in need of treatment. I call them ‘magnificently minded’ because their potential is so vast when they are freed from the negative influence of traditional treatment.”

“Most teachers and adults could benefit from pretending that all children in their class have ADHD,” he said. “What is good for kids with ADHD is good for all kids.”
