America’s Allergist Dr. Bill Lanting Fights Pediatric Allergies 3 Ways

(Newswire.net — November 17, 2015) Fort Collins, CO — Dr. William Lanting, Chief Allergist and Medical Director of the Allergy and Asthma Center of the Rockies (AAACOR), is on a mission: to treat pediatric patients as early as possible to fight back against the “pediatric trio” of allergies that affect large numbers of children under the age of 12.

“There is a 40% overlap between Asthma and allergies,” says Dr. Bill, “and the ‘pediatric trio,’ Eczema, Allergic Rhinitis, and Asthma, is hard to recognize for non-specialists,” including most dermatologists and pediatricians, he says.

February through November is the biggest allergy season in Greeley, CO and Ft. Collins, CO, where AAACOR has its two largest offices.  “Asthma goes undiagnosed and untreated for too many children until it really is too late to prevent children from longer term effects,” he warns.  Dr. Lanting brings his expertise one day a week to the “Plains” offices of AAACOR: Sterling, Ft. Morgan, Ray, Yuma, and Nebraska, CO.

For those who ask, “What is Allergic Rhinitis?,” the answer is, when you have coughing, sinus pressure, headaches, nasal congestion, nose blowing, sneezing, runny nose, sinus infections….that is a good indication.  But there are both allergic and non-allergic forms of Rhinitis.  “If you have the non-allergic kind, no amount of Zyrtech will help you,” Dr. Bill says.  Patients often self-medicate with over-the-counter products that are ineffective, temporary, overreaching, or have side effects, such as sedating from Benadryl, Dr. Lanting stated.  It’s better to get an accurate diagnosis from a Board Certified allergist, because you can then be treated with the most effective medications for your diagnosis and even become allergy-free through a course of immunotherapy.

To become Board Certified as an Allergist, an M.D. is required to have two to three years of additional medical training after medical school, Dr. Lanting explains. It is a true medical specialty tailored to diagnose and treat a spectrum of sometimes deceptive symptoms.  “100 million Americans are suffering from allergies, yet only 10% receive treatment.  That means tens of millions are underdiagnosed, untreated, and suffering needlessly,” he concluded.  “50% of all migraines go away forever after treatment,” states Dr. Bill.  These are the migraine headaches that occur as a result of allergies.
