AMG Services Surf School, a popular US surf school that has been located on the west coast for a decade, will change locations next winter. The surf school will be headquartered in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The school, which teaches the art of surfing to all ages, will finish the busy spring and summer seasons in its old home before relocating.

“After many really successful years in business, it has been painful to make this kind of decision,” says school founder Ben Gomez. “We want to continue to serve clients and teach the love of surfing to young people, and have decided that Costa Rica is the best place to do this.”

Costa Rica, a country that is very friendly to American business, will be the new home of AMG Services Surf School. The school expects that dedicated patrons will combine vacation with surfing opportunities, and that the ex-patriot community will also be very interested in the sport.

“I’ve already vetted many clients, including corporate retreats, retiree communities, and schools,” says Gomez. “I know that the opportunity will be bountiful in Costa Rica.”

The AMG Services Surf School focuses not only on the physical aspect of the sport, but also on the mental challenges that surfing offers. Students mediated for thirty minutes and were required to run at least one mile on the beach before they were allowed to step onto a board. The AMG Services Surf School also ran a highly successful surf shop, offering surf boards, board accessories, and the latest surfing gear. This shop will remain local, with business being run by Gomez from the new AMG home in Guanacaste. Gomez also plans to open a second shop in Costa Rica.

“It’s summer all the time there,” says Gomez. “We have an amazing experience ahead of us.”
