Malcolm Young suffering a stroke has prompted AC/DC fans to despair that the band may be retiring soon as the guitarist can never play for the band again.
Apparently the band members had made a pact where no one in the band would be replaced should someone need to leave the group. At this present moment nothing has been confirmed.
Lead singer Brian Johnson has said he is “not ruling anything out” regarding the retirement claims being made.
When interviewed by the Daily Telegraph, he said the band plan to meet up in Canada next month.
“We’re going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas,” he said. “If anything happens, we’ll record it.”
However, he admitted one of his bandmates has a “debilitating illness”, adding: “I wouldn’t like to say anything either way about the future. I’m not ruling anything out.”
He also said a tour marking the band’s 40th anniversary would be a “wonderful way to say bye”.
As a reward to their fans the band were working on a new album and planned to play a 40-date tour to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary.
Elder brother, Alex Young’s son Stevie replaced Malcolm Young a few years back for a tour and nobody knew the difference.
This could be the solution for AC/DC to continue on for their fans.
To show how they rank as a band, in 2009 they were the fifth best selling band in US history and the tenth best selling artist, outselling both Madonna and Mariah Carey.
Their biggest album Back in Black is the fifth biggest selling album of all time in the US.
AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on 10 March 2003. During the ceremony the band performed “Highway to Hell” and “You Shook Me All Night Long”, with guest vocals provided by host Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
He described the band’s power chords as “the thunder from down under that gives you the second-most-powerful surge that can flow through your body.”
Their songs were used as the soundtrack for the movie Iron Man 2.
So hopefully for AC/DC fans and other heavy metal fans the band will continue to rock in their 40th year together.
