At age 28, Boesch has demonstrated the ability to rise to whatever challenge that he has had.  Playing in Detroit with Miguel Cabrera is a two edged sword.  Although Cabrera is the MVP, it is still the role of upholding the position as “supporting cast” to be the superstar and deliver the clutch hits when the MVP is pitched around and avoided.  Boesch has thrived in this limelight while also respecting the veteran superstars with whom he shares this stage.

Brennan Boesch also understands his time in his career and knows that his time will come, but show time never ends.  There is that fine balance of playing as the ultimate team member and reveling in the ultimate stage when it is time to shine.  At 28 years old, Boesch is entering the prime of his baseball career.  He has been fortunate enough to play on two top level contending American League teams being the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees, both of which have lineups of superstars and great expectations from their fans.

Teams like these do not spend their player dollars indiscriminately without a purpose and deep interest.  The chemistry to blend in with these stars and maintain the decorum with the press media and locker room camaraderie, requires a maturity much beyond Boesch’s age would indicate.  The fitness and training regimen is a given with the requisite discipline of the day to day lifestyle for a professional athlete.

Free agency is a way of life in today’s professional sports regardless of what past successes may have been achieved and therefore it is incumbent upon the successful players to be able to adjust to their new environment and keep their proverbial “eye on the ball”.  Boesch seems to be well grounded as he has had an early exposure to the right ingredients for success.  Even throughout his recovery in the minor leagues, he seems to have embraced the process in order to get back onto the healthy path.

As a rookie, Boesch  had a .338 batting average and a .548 slugging percentage against left handed pitching, while also named Rookie of the Month in both May and June of that year.  Leading all major league rookies, Boesch had 14 home runs, 67 RBI’s, 119 hits, 26 doubles, and 193 total bases with 43 extra base hits.
