Curcumin May Be Beneficial for Colon Health

(Newswire.net — January 13, 2017) Orlando, FL — Consuming food and beverages with the highest nutritional values may significantly improve overall health. In taking care of the body’s organs, such as the colon, it may also be helpful to include supplements, such as curcumin.

Curcumin may have the potential to help protect the health of the colon. Curcumin is one of the most popular phytochemicals today. It can be abundantly found in the ancient spice called turmeric.

In traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, turmeric has been used for a range of conditions. Many of the benefits it is believed to offer come from curcumin.

“Curcumin is believed to contain antibacterial, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibiotic, and anti-carcinogenic properties,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reveal that 51,783 individuals in the United States succumbed to death due to colon cancer in 2011.

It is imperative to determine what role the colon plays in the body. It is responsible for extracting salt, vitamins, water, and some other nutrients from an indigestible food. The colon also processes food that has not been digested in the small intestine and eliminates waste particles from the body.

Malfunctions are thought to cause the colon to absorb instead of eliminate toxins. When this happens, it may result in weight gain, bloating, headache, and chronic illnesses. Mucus can also accumulate in the colon, and this may trigger the production of toxins, which are poisonous to the body.

One of the most common reasons why colon health problems take place is poor food choices. It is usually the gastro-intestinal tract that sends signals indicating problems, and this results in the appearance of symptoms.  Individuals who suffer from colon problems usually experience diarrhea, heartburn, blood in the stool, abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, incontinence, constipation, and difficulty swallowing.

In a study presented by the Molecular Nutritional Research, the researchers dosed mice with curcumin for five days. It was found that the mice achieved a reduction in colitis symptoms.

The researchers suggest that curcumin’s potential antioxidant properties may be responsible for its protective effects in the lungs. This phytochemical could also inhibit the action of NF-kappa-B, which is a major cellular inflammatory agent.

The use of turmeric has long been believed to help regain and maintain colon health through the curcumin it contains. Curcumin supplements may be utilized by individuals who want to improve their colon health. There are many curcumin supplements available, the most notable of which contain a black pepper extract called piperine.

Supplements with piperine are believed to offer more potential benefits since this black pepper extract may help to increase curcumin absorption inside the body.
