Product designer Scott Tucker recently announced the release of a new fire retardant foam to be produced by his company Double Plus Innovations.
“When we decide to take an idea to the next level it usually takes a while, simmering in the tank for a bit, but this one was fast-tracked. Everyone was unanimous in getting started right away, and that’s almost always a sign of good things to come,” says Scott Tucker.
“When we originally looked at all the products on the market we immediately noticed some room for improvement. Not only that, but that there was only a few minor changes to make for a substantial increase performance and ease of use.”
Scott Tucker says they have a few volunteer firefighters on the payroll, so it was not hard to get some first hand experience and feedback using other spray foam products. “We’ve been interrogating the local fire chief as well as writing to just about every firefighter we know,” says Tucker.
“Our local firefighters also put out the word on all the forums and blogs they follow which gave us a front row view in written and video form of how the other spray foams worked in the field. It definitely gave us a big help being able to connect, albeit indirectly, with the work these people do and how important it is to have products that work right the first time.”
Scott Tucker hopes to continue working with the local firehouse and chief to come up with more ideas for improvement. They both stated they thought this was only the beginning of mutually beneficial collaboration. Jake Nichols, a local firefighter said, “It’s really great to have a company literally right down the road that is using your ideas in real time. I mean we could write in to some of the major companies, or talk to them on the phone about problems with their products, but with Scott Tucker we have the benefit of talking face to face.”
