(Newswire.net — May 24, 2021) Winnetka, IL — Diabetes is required to be managed well, and this can be done not just by following healthy dietary and lifestyle habits but also taking certain medications.
While medications are important for diabetes control, it is worth realizing that these medications may contain hazardous chemicals.
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating a diabetes drug called metformin, which is believed to contain a cancer-causing chemical. The FDA aims at determining whether the medication is contaminated by a potential carcinogen.
The cancer-causing contaminant is called the N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), which can be found in water and foods. It is believed to make its way into the medication through the manufacturing process or the manner the drug is packed or stored.
The FDA says that when exposure to NDMA is in relatively low amounts, it is not harmful to human health.
Health authorities warn that over time, it increases the odds of a person’s risk of cancer. Overexposure to these toxins may also result in abdominal cramps, vomiting, fever, jaundice, and dizziness.
According to Marilyn Tan, MD, NDMA in high amounts and with long-term exposure is thought to be carcinogenic, and some animal studies have shown possible liver toxicity, but with high dose exposure and over longer periods of time.

More studies are still being carried out to explore the effects of this medication. However, experts strongly recommend not stopping intake of the drug without the approval of a physician.
Interestingly, certain all-natural remedies like ashwagandha are found to help combat diabetes. This Ayurvedic herb has long been resorted to for various medicinal purposes.
One of the ways ashwagandha has been found to help combat diabetes is through its ability to decrease levels of blood sugar. According to researchers, it works by increasing the levels of insulin secretion and sensitivity in the muscle cells.
Scientists carried out a study called the ‘Hypoglycemic activity of withanolides and elicitated Withania somnifera.
In this research, scientists found ashwagandha worked against diabetes and is beneficial in individuals with diabetes.
What makes it all the more beneficial against this condition is that it also reduces levels of cortisol, which is a stress hormone. It is important to realize that when there is an increase in the levels of cortisol, it also triggers an upsurge in blood sugar levels.
This is another way it works in battling diabetes. This natural remedy may be obtained through the use of formulas like NutraHerbals Ashwagandha (http://amazon.com/organic-ashwagandha-root-powder/dp/B01GZALWGO).
