(Newswire.net — August 14, 2018) Orlando, FL —  Nowadays, it has become the habit of so many people to consume unhealthy beverages, which are widely available, inexpensive, and have low nutritional values. There are also those who consume healthy drinks, such as milk, which has been known to promote bone health. However, there are actually other therapeutic beverages believed to be useful for taking better care of the bones.

Green tea is believed to be a powerful bone-health promoting drink. The bones are not just essential for functioning, but also human survival. While the bones are usually designed to be strong, they are almost always susceptible to various health threats.

In a new research study from Hong Kong, it was found that green tea could aid in the prevention and treatment of bone diseases, which includes osteoporosis. This bone disease develops when the density and quality of the bone reduces. When this happens, it increases the risk of fracture.

The study was performed by Dr Ping Chung Leung and colleagues from the Institute of Chinese Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It can be viewed in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

According to the The International Osteoporosis Foundation, there were an estimated 9 million cases of osteoporotic fractures worldwide in 2000. It is imperative to address bone health issues to reduce the risk of serious medical problems.

Conditions affecting the bones could be painful and debilitating. This is why it is best that consumers are able to take better care of their bones. This can be done by simply nourishing the bones with essential nutrients.

In some studies, it has been found that consumption of green tea could potentially prevent heart disease and cancer due to the therapeutic chemicals it contains. It is worth mentioning that these chemicals have also demonstrated their ability to improve bone health by stimulating the formation of bones and slowing down its breakdown.

The bones are often described as a living dynamic metabolic system that depends on maintaining balance between bone formation and bone resorption. The cells called osteoblasts take care of bone formation, and osteoclasts are the cells that resorb it.

In a research study, there was a group of cultured rat osteoblast-like cells that were exposed to three catechin chemicals, which are components of green tea, for days. These chemicals are the epigallocatechin (EGC), gallocatechin (GC), and gallocatechingallate (GCG).

It was found that EGC promoted bone growth by 79 percent. When its amounts are boosted, the bone mineralization level in the cells also increased, which strengthened bones.
