(Newswire.net — April 16, 2014) Houston, TX — Little did Amanda and her husband know that learning how to coupon would eventually lead to paying cash for an Alaskan cruise.

“When I was laid off in 2008, I decided that I wanted to spend my time learning how those women walk out of the store with a cart full of products that they paid next to nothing for. That’s when I learned about the Drugstore Game,” Amanda said, shaking her head as she thought about all of the money she had wasted at drugstores prior to that year.

Amanda further explains that back then, she was just looking for a way to cut down on their monthly bills while in unemployment. But after her first transaction where she walked out of CVS with $40+ worth of products for less than $5, she saw the true potential of this coupon strategy.

“There really is a strategy for couponing, and it doesn’t involve being an extreme couponer,” Amanda explains, then adds, “though in the beginning it can be quit addicting to walk away with hundreds of dollars’ worth of free products for less than the cost of a newspaper.”

While everything Amanda has learned about how to coupon at drugstores and beyond is in the book The CVS Drugstore Game, she shared a few tips.

“There is very little clipping involved when you really learn how to coupon. Really, you can just save each of your Sunday newspaper coupon circulars and put them in a pile because the date of each is written in small font along the circular’s binding. Then you need to follow a blog that lists out deals each week plus where to find the exact coupon you will need. For example, you might need a coupon from the Red Plum circular dating to 3/15. Once you know the date and circular type, you simply go to that in your pile and cut out the exact coupon. The idea is to purchase only products that will yield you some sort of store credit, say the ExtraCare Buck for CVS, and then to use your ExtraCare Bucks to purchase more products that yield more ExtraCare Bucks.”

Using this strategy plus many others available in The CVS Drugstore Game eBook, Amanda was able to save over $3,000 in the span of several years, which she then used to pay cash for an Alaskan cruise she and her husband enjoyed.

“It was amazing to see Alaska. The only word we could come up with to describe it is ‘majestic’ because of the snow-capped mountains, the field of bald eagles we stumbled upon, the savory salmon bakes and the cuisine enjoyed on our cruise ship. My favorite part was actually snorkeling in Ketchikan, and my husband was totally stoked when he caught a salmon fish on an excursion!”

Amanda adds, “having our cruise paid for in cash is what made it even more enjoyable, because we knew a hill of bills was not waiting for us when we returned.”
