(Newswire.net — April, 4 2013) Austin, TX –Long considered one of the finest classical guitarists, Adam Holzman is performing at The University of Kentucky School of Music in Lexington on April 8th. The concert will be at 7:30 pm.
The New York Times wrote of his performances as “…polished and quite dazzling.” Soundboard Magazine describes his performances as follows, “Adam Holzman is a player whose hallmarks are precision and elegance…Holzman plays with sensitivity, restraint, and a consistently full sound that is always rich. A superb performance!” As a recording artist, the American Record Guide wrote of his Lauro recording, “The works of Antonio Lauro have long been popular with guitarists, yet there have been few recordings devoted exclusively to him. The landmark recording was David Russel’s 1980 LP. Now, 20 years later, comes another masterly recording by Adam Holzman: in many ways it raises the benchmark still further.”
Mr. Holzman has performed at the prestigious Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, distinguished New York venues such as Kaufman Hall at the 92nd St. Y, Merkin Hall, and Carnegie Recital Hall, as well as in music festivals and series from Miami to San Francisco, Boston to New Orleans. His extensive international performances have taken him throughout Europe, Canada, Mexico, Central and Latin America.
In addition to a his performing career, Holzman is founder of the classical guitar program at the University of Texas at Austin. Since 1989, he has built one of the strongest classical guitar programs in North America with many of his students winning national and international acclaim.
When asked about why he choses the particular pieces on any given program, Holzman responded “As I create a program I try to choose music that I am both passionate about and enjoy sharing. For instance the Bach was a chance to revisit a piece that I hadn’t performed in almost 25 years. It was like reconnecting with an old friend after many years. I have enjoyed discovering a new way of playing the piece after so many years.”
“The highest aspirations I have is to create music such that a listener will hear music, maybe even music they have heard before, played in such a way to them its as though its the first time they have heard it. To create a musical experience beyond the confines of any instrument so that the music speaks through the guitar and transcends it.”
The classical guitar concert program will feature music of Bach, Scarlatti, Dowland, Turina, Barrios, Ritter, Legnani, and Tamez.
In addition to performing a concert, he will be teaching a masterclass for University of Kentucky guitar performance majors on April 9th.
