(Newswire.net — August 13, 2015) Kingston, Kingston — Released July 4th, 2015, it is the 11th studio album to be compiled by Wayne and features a number of guest artistes.
One of the many artistes who collaborated with Weezy on the album is Junior “One Blood” Reid, who is hailed by many as a Reggae legend. Possessing a unique, raspy and melodic voice, the Jamaican singer has collaborated in the past with a number of hip hop greats, including The Game. His trademark vocals are on display on track number 8 of the Weezy’s new album and is entitled “Murda”. Completing the verses of the hard-hitting track are Young Money rappers, Capo and Cory Gunz. The track is produced by Reefa Beats.
A Jamaican musical icon in his own right, Junior Reid’s distinctly melodic voice seems to provide the perfect backdrop for the rapid-fire lyrics coming from Wayne and his other collaborators on “Murda”. In fact, he manages to create a haunting effect that complements the chaotic lyrics of the others. This is not surprising, since Reid is well-known for his infectious melodies. Apart from the chorus, Reid’s voice provides harmony in the background a few times throughout the song, which adds further dimension.
The entire FWA album is seen by many as rebellious, a response to Cash Money’s stranglehold on Carter V. The hindered album is supposed to be the fifth instalment in the Carter series, which was started by Wayne years earlier. Birdman, who is the head of Cash Money, stands between Wayne and the album’s release. Once a friend and mentor of Wayne, Birdman contends that Carter V is the property of Cash Money and, therefore, is being kept from Lil Wayne, who jumped ship less than a year ago after the first signs of the issue surfaced. The prevailing shenanigans are believed to be a motivating factor behind the recording of FWA, which was released on Jay-Z’s new platform, Tidal.
The reviews on FWA have been mixed so far, with many expressing love for the production on social platforms. Others have scrutinized it harshly while picking out tracks to laud. “Murda” seems to be one that has been embraced by the streets. Some YouTube viewers have even gone as far as to say that the track is among the hardest on the album. With some rippling lyrics that portray the gang bang lifestyle, the song seems to be destined for popularity on the streets. Also, it is interpreted by some fans as a “diss” song, conveying a not so cryptic message from Tunechi to the Birdman camp, arising from the furor with Weezy leaving Cash Money and the non-release of Carter V.
Junior Reid is one of Jamaica’s most prolific artistes. He has been singing professionally and performing for close to 40 years. He has amassed a number of accolades over the years, which include him being part of Black Uhuru, the first reggae act to win a Grammy award. He is also known for the smash hit “One Blood”, which is one of the most sampled and remixed reggae tracks. Reid’s talent for making up melodies is undeniable and has seen him record hit songs and collaborate with numerous hip hop artistes who want to add some spice to their tracks. That seems to be the reason for the Young Money boss including him on “Murda”.
