Apple has been found guilty of lying to its consumers in regards to the validity of their warranties. Law firms in Sydney have pursued the injustice with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
As a result of these rulings, Apple has been forced to reassess previous cases that stretch back for the past two years. The watchdog believes that Apple has been lying to its consumers in order to increase their dwindling profit margin.
Insiders believe that until previously Apple has operated its business with an air of superiority over consumer law standards in Australia. There are strong allegations linking to the watchdog letting Apple slide in its prime to protect Australia’s economy due to the overwhelming domination of Apple in the smartphone department.
Apple had previously told consumers that they were only entitled to a refund if a product was returned within 2 weeks and that the tech giant only offered store credit rather than a full refund as required by consumer law. The giant had trained it’s staff to maintain store policy however the policy should not have been in place in the first place as consumers are covered under statutory law however many consumers are not fully aware of their rights and as a result have been taken advantage of.
Several law firms in Sydney have campaigned against the corporate giants and have cheered on the ACCC as it ruled over the corporate giant. Many law firms in Sydney have been fearful for making such a fuss with the tech company as it once had such a strangle hold over consumer products however now the times have finally caught up with Apple.
Apple will now be retraining it’s staff, with growing concerns that consumers will be lining up in law firms across the country if the company continue to provide misleading information.
Law firms in Sydney who have aided the new ruling including prominent lawyer, Simon Maverick believes that it’s great that law firms in Sydney were able to band together with the ACCC to rectify injustice within consumer law.
“I think apple has certainly been reminded that they like any other corporation have to be fall in line with the watchdog and just like any other company will be caught out for failing to conduct ethical behavior.
Apple have already made plans to restructure it’s marketing and customer service, promising that they will retrain staff and provide ACCC pamphlets that will educate consumers in their rights. This is a great start by Apple who have been very forthcoming and cooperatively since the ruling.”
