Michigan Testing XLNTbrain Sport Concussion Tool Garners National Media Attention

(Newswire.net — December 24, 2015) National Harbor, MD — Media attention snowballed after an Associated Press story reported about Michigan schools using a new “gold standard” in concussion testing. Reports were seen in USA Today, Washington Post, ABC News among many others, making the story a ‘trending topic’ during the day.

The Michigan model provides about 10,000 student-athletes access to the XLNTbrain Sport™ platform that includes the latest in concussion testing, detection and recovery protocol technology for the 2015–16 school year. This was accomplished through a collaborative effort with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) who implemented the XLNTbrain Sport™ platform at no cost to the athletes, parents and schools.

Steve Lewis, CEO of XLNTbrain, said Michigan represents an example that other states can follow. In a September news report, Lewis envisioned this program could ultimately benefit millions of athletes playing contact sports, as well as a corporate partner to share in this widely publicized endeavor.

“The MHSAA and XLNTbrain have found a method to deliver the latest in sports concussion technology to its student-athletes which we believe could be replicated in every state in America,” said Lewis, who spearheaded the Michigan program. “Now, we are considering adding a ‘sponsoring’ organization to help build on the momentum started in Michigan, such as a pharmacy, healthcare company, sports clinic, sporting goods retailer or insurance company would all find many social and financial benefits for helping provide concussion safety to youth sports.” 

One result from the national media attention, is the increase demand to see how XLNTbrain works. “We’ve started scheduling 30-minute webinars to demonstrate how XLNTbrain can be integrated into a school, sports or clinic setting,” Lewis said. “In the meantime, both Michigan and XLNTbrain are serving its student-athletes while in discussions with several potential sponsors and spokespeople.”

The Michigan pilot includes concussion education that exceeds the state concussion laws, as well as pre-season concussion baseline testing, an on-the-field concussion detection test, recovery protocol with symptom tracking, and automated reporting for medical personnel. All the tests and tool are integrated into one online and mobile platform, created by neurologist Harry Kerasidis, MD who has spent his 25-year career studying and treating concussions. He recently authored “Concussion-ology: Redefining Sports Concussion Management For All Levels.”
