(Newswire.net — October 25, 2019) Orlando, FL — Scientists have been stressing the importance of maintaining healthy levels of testosterone. Unfortunately, it is worth realizing that having unhealthy testosterone levels is linked with some undesirable health consequences.
A study was carried out by a global research team spearheaded by C. Mary Schooling from the School of Public Health and Health Policy at City University of New York.
In this research, it has been found that there was a drastic increase in the risk of heart failure in men due to high testosterone levels, which are also linked with stroke-causing blood clots.
Researchers suggest that males with a genetic predisposition to high levels of testosterone have almost an eightfold increased risk of heart failure. They have further been found to double the risk of thromboembolism.
It is worth mentioning that this is a condition characterized by blood clots, which can block veins or arteries leading to the brain or lungs.
In the United States, researchers found that testosterone scales increased 12-fold globally between 2000 and 2011.
According to Dr. Guy Mintz, this study serves as a big, red stop sign, a warning that higher circulating levels of testosterone can lead to an increase in cardiovascular events, which are all associated with an increased risk of death.
Dr. Mintz is director of cardiovascular health and lipidology at Northwell Health’s Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y.
More studies are still being carried out to learn more about the effects of high testosterone on heart health. However, it is worth noting that there are many ways to protect and enhance cardiovascular health.
One is to increase intake of nutrients like vitamin B6 and folate, which can decrease the risk of heart disease and stroke. These healing ingredients have been found helpful due to their potential to aid in the reduction of homocysteine levels.
Researchers say increased intakes of vitamin B6 and folate have been linked with the significant reduction in the likelihood of death compared to those who consumed less. It is further worth noting that such health benefits were even more striking in women.
Scientists tracked participants who were part of the Japanese Collaborative Cohort study, for an average period of 14 years. It is worth mentioning that more than 2,000 participants died due to cardiovascular disease during this time.
The investigators noted that women who consumed most folate and B6 had a significant decrease in the risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and overall cardiovascular disease.
While more research studies are still being carried out to learn about the heart-health benefits of B vitamins further, their intake is highly recommended.
