(Newswire.net — February 2, 2022) Orlando, FL — Stroke is undeniably prevalent today, and it is usually linked with old age. However, in a new study, it appears to be affecting the younger ones.
This new research reveals that in the U.S., strokes have been increasingly affecting young people. The good news is that there has been a drop in its prevalence among those 55 years and older.
According to lead researcher Joel Swerdel, people born during what I call the ‘Golden Generation,’ 1945 to 1954, had lower rates of stroke than those born 20 years before them and also in the 20 years after them.
Swerdel is a Ph.D. candidate at the Rutgers University School of Public Health in New Jersey.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States.
Experts say that strokes primarily develop when there is a blockage in the blood vessel or the artery of the brain due to a blood clot. When this happens, the brain is starved with oxygen and this kills the brain cells in the affected area.
The investigators compared the rates of heart attacks and stroke between generations. This analysis was according to more than 225,000 records of stroke data between 1995 and 2014.
The study was released online on Nov. 23 in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
While more research studies are still being carried out to explore the prevalence and complications of strokes, experts continue to recommend resorting to some measures that could help fight the condition.
There are nutrients like vitamin C scientifically found useful against stroke. It is worth noting that according to French researchers, individuals with a deficiency of vitamin C might be at a higher risk for bleeding in the brain.
These are called hemorrhagic strokes, which make up only 15 percent of all strokes. They are deadlier than ischemic strokes, and they occur when there is a blockage in the blood vessels in the brain.
Dr. Stephane Vannier, the study’s lead researcher, says that this study suggests that a low level of vitamin C is a risk for spontaneous brain hemorrhages.
Dr. Stephane Vannier is from Pontchaillou University Hospital in Rennes.
The medicinal use of vitamin C is actually backed by science. Today, there are quite a number of research studies revealing that this nutrient could work wonders in warding off a range of diseases.
It can be obtained through intake of fruits and vegetables, as well as the use of supplements like Divine Bounty Magnesium Citrate (www.amazon.com/Divine-Bounty-Magnesium-Citrate-Supplement/dp/B01LYWPNY6).
