(Newswire.net — September 1, 2015) — PC repair expert Nick Mitchell warns clients not to attempt PC cleanup on their own. Doing so could could create several problems with computer performance, program stability, or even cause security holes.
Nick Mitchell is a specialist from the PC cleanup review site, TuneUpSoftwareReviews.com, where he tests and reviews dozens of PC cleanup solutions. Mitchell and his partners have helped hundreds of home computer owners extend the life of their PC and get it running more like it did when they first bought it. In most cases, by recommending PC repair software that doesn’t require any technical acumen to use it.
DIY Computer Repair Horror Stories
“I can’t tell you how many times I hear horror stories about someone reading a ‘how-to’ guide online about PC cleanup, and ending up worse off than they started,” says Mitchell. “Previously you had to know all the different software to buy and how to use them together, but that’s not the case anymore. We recommend software that a user simply installs and runs with a single click, and it takes care of everything for them,” Mitchell continued.
Over time computers can become sluggish and unresponsive. This is often due to years of unnecessary files building up, or a fragmented hard drive, or a disorganized registry–all of which can be maintained manually, but this is not recommended by most experts.
“Defragmenting the hard drive is relatively easy these days, and Windows has gotten much better at making it easier,” says Mitchell. “However, that’s only the tip of the iceberg if you’re trying to make your computer run like new. Registry repair, for instance, is where things get hairy.”
Mitchell goes on to say that the Windows Registry is where multiple files are stored that relate to all the various programs, apps, and software running on your computer. Over time it can become very cluttered and impact your computer’s overall performance.
“The problem is,” Mitchell states, “is that it’s very easy to delete the wrong registry key by accident, which could result in broken applications or even broken system functions. You don’t want to go in there alone if you’re not 100% sure you know what you’re doing.”
There’s also another factor that could be bogging down your PC: a virus or spyware. While a fragmented hard drive and bloated registry are the typical culprits, according to Mitchell, a virus or spyware lurking beneath the surface can be a greater threat to speed and security.
“PC cleanup software and antivirus software alike are finally getting smart and combing both functions into one software. Many of the antivirus companies have already incorporated some kind of PC cleanup tools into their system,” says Mitchell. “And there’s at least one PC cleanup software called Fix-it Utilities Pro that finally got smart and included a first-rate antivirus program, that we’ve been very impressed with.”
Even though manually cleaning up your computer is best left to the professionals, Mitchell says not to worry, there are several notable programs that will do all of the cleanup safely for you.
“Yes, it’s possible to cleanup and tuneup your own computer manually, but I wouldn’t recommend it,” says Mitchell. “A much safer, and easier alternative is to look into getting a good cleanup software. It’ll be a lot more thorough and get your PC humming along like brand new.”
