Planning for Life’s Events: Prepare for the Unexpected

(Newswire.net — October 20, 2019) — As we get older and our health slowly starts to decline, it’s essential to plan, even for the worse. We all know we are not going to live forever, and no one wants to leave their family with the stress of making medical and financial decisions.

Some things can be put in place, so family members know what we want financially and medically.

Medical Power of Attorney

It is a good idea to think about who we might want as medical power of attorney because we never know when we might fall ill and will be unable to make rational decisions. A medical power of attorney takes over the responsibility of medical choices when someone is too sick to do so on their own.

One should pick a person who is trustworthy and responsible because, in some ways, they are putting one’s life in their hands. This person must fill out medical power of attorney forms to legally make medical decisions.

Living Will

A living will is another thing to think about if someone is getting older. If there is an accident or an illness that quickly accelerates, a person can find themselves on life support.

A living will states the person’s wishes when on life support if they want to stay connected, or to disconnect them and let them pass. Also, a living will can state if one wants to be resuscitated if they pass, which medication they want to be given, if they want a feeding tube inserted, or if they want their organs donated.

If we don’t have a living will, it can put severe stress on a family trying to make the best decision for their loved one. In order for them to be legal, we must fill out living will and advance directive forms and submit them.

Life Insurance

If we don’t want to leave our living loved ones with financial burden after we pass, getting a life insurance policy can ensure expenses are covered. There are many different types of plans we can purchase based on what we want to be covered.

The earlier in life someone buys a plan, the cheaper the monthly rate is. Also, how healthy a person is, plays a significant role in how much coverage they get and how much the rates are. Ideally, if we are getting older and still have good health, that is when we should look into plans before it is too late.

There are many options and things to think about when choosing a life insurance plan, so it is a good idea to sit down with someone to plan together what is best.

The Bottom Line

No one wants to think about themselves getting older, their health declining, or their death. However, it is responsible to take an honest look at what we want to leave behind and how we want to live the last days of our lives.

Starting to plan for these things, makes getting older less stressful for the person and their family. Also, they have the ease of mind that they will not be leaving behind financial burden or unanswered questions for their family when they leave us in this world.
