Reverend Charles Taylor and The Taylor Singers. Thirty five tracks from original recordings from the House Of Beauty Catalog
Sonorous Records is releasing thirty three original tracks from our HOB catalog of Reverend Charles Taylor and Charles Taylor and the Taylor Singers. “One Album features exclusively Reverend Charles Taylor and contains 13 songs” stated Ivan Cavric label manager. Each track has been digitally enhanced for best sound quality while maintaining the integrity of the original recording.
The albums being released featuring Reverend Charles Taylor and the Taylor singers are: White Cliffs Of Dover andI Woke Up This Morningwith each containing ten tracks. With 13 tracks featuring only Charles Taylor the album is titled Brightly Beams.
Charles Taylor was a gospel artist. At times, he was referred to as “The King of Gospel”, Reverend Charles Taylor, and Professor Charles Taylor. Recordings are from the Golden Age of gospel music. From the Golden Era of gospel music with the Taylor Singers.
Almost none of the music from what’s known as gospel’s “Golden Age,” roughly 1945 to 1975, was recorded for major labels. Artists ordered perhaps a couple hundred copies of a record to sell at their performances, and that was that. “They were done in terrible little studios, and they were raw and they were real,” Darden says.
Melodically, gospel songs from this era were more diatonic and conjunct. As “the spirit leads the vocalist” the melodies would become more chromatic and disjunct, evoking pure spiritual emotion that was congruent with the accompanying body or musicians.
