(Newswire.net — September 18, 2014) Lehi, Utah — Musicians and cancer patients are coming together to raise money for early-stage cancer research. Supported by the CrowdCare Foundation, the Songs for Life contest is calling for song donations for the first-of-its-kind music contest. All proceeds raised will help fund promising early-stage cancer research.
To enter the contest, artists are asked to submit their original or cover song on www.songsforlife.org between September 15-November 15, 2014. The top 20 most popular songs as determined by Facebook likes will be reviewed by the Songs For Life judging panel, which includes YouTube sensations ThePianoGuys, Jessie Funk, Kenz Hall and musicians who are cancer survivors. Winners will be announced on December 1, 2014 and will receive up to $2,000 towards recording studio fees for a professional version of their song at Soularium Studios near Salt Lake City, Utah and an additional $1500 in travel expenses if needed. The final Songs For Life CD/album will be released in February 2015 and all proceeds will be donated to the CrowdCare Foundation.
“As I went through two stem cell transplants, music was a lifeline that helped me get through,” says Jenny Ahlstrom, a survivor of multiple myeloma (a blood cancer) and founder of the Songs for Life contest. “Now that I’m in remission, it’s time to give back.” The way Jenny is doing that is by helping raise funds to support promising clinical trials. “Funds raised from sales will benefit early-stage cancer research selected by both a doctor and patient advisory board.”
Artists who submit a song for the contest will be encouraged to share their song with friends and family via social media vehicles, like Facebook and Twitter, to increase their votes. “It’s a powerful and fun way to promote their song and talent, while making a meaningful difference in the pace of new discoveries,” says Ahlstrom.
Jenny has brought in professional musicians to co-create a theme song for the contest, and will be doing a live Google+ Hangout from the recording studio with an update on the progress of the theme song recording process. You can watch the broadcast live at 6:30 PM MDT on Monday September 22, 2014 by visiting the Google+ Event Page on your computer or mobile device, or you can watch the broadcast below in the embedded YouTube window.
