During what was supposed to be a minor throat procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy on August 28, 2014, Joan Rivers stopped breathing, which triggered a cardiac arrest where she passed away a week later on Thursday, September 4, 2014. Her death occurred at Mount Sinai Hospital, she was 81. Fans of the “Fashion Police” comedian have showed a large amount of support for Joan Rivers’ daughter, Melissa Rivers, 46.

Melissa, a comedian and public figure herself, noted that her mother was in a peaceful state and surrounded by family and friends at the time of her death.

In a statement released shortly after Rivers’ death, Melissa Rivers said, “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. ET surrounded by family and close friends. My son [Cooper] and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.” She continued, “Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.”

In response to Rivers’ cardiac arrest and subsequent medically-induced coma, Yorkville Endoscopy has garnered the attention of the New York Health Department. In addition to a probing from the city’s health department, the location’s accreditation from the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities is now in question as well since the association is now conducting an independent investigation as well.

Additionally, Radar Online as reported that a large dose of Propofol may be the underlying cause behind all of Rivers’ recent complications and death. The drug was also found to be a major factor in the June 25, 2009, death of Michael Jackson. A source told RadarOnline that, “Certainly, they suspect the anesthesia was the issue, based on conversations between the staff and city medics.”

Understandably, production for the it E! Entertainment show “Fashion Police” has been stopped for the time being. There has yet to be an announcement from E! on whether or not the show will continue on without Joan Rivers or not, but it’s hard to imagine the show would have nearly as much clout or entertainment value sans the brilliantly sharp comedian.  An exploration of Facebook shows her fans honoring her life with amazing quotes and funny videos (sample facebook post).
