(Newswire.net — August 3, 2022) Orlando, FL — On a global scale, about 150 million people are diagnosed with urinary tract infections every year. This type of infection usually requires the use of medications like antibiotics.
While antibiotics are useful in killing the bacteria causing the infection, health authorities warn against the adverse effects linked with their use. It is worth noting that antibiotics also end up killing good bacteria, which have various functions inside the body.
What makes this medication even more dangerous is that it causes antibiotic resistance, especially when misused or used on a long-term basis.
This is why more and more experts are recommending some preventive tricks to reduce the risk of UTIs. One of these techniques is to consume more water.
A study was carried out and published in the JAMA Internal Medicine.
According to senior author Dr. Yair Lotan, in the controlled trial, women who drank an additional 1.5 liters of water daily experienced 48 percent fewer repeat bladder infections than those who drank their usual volume of fluids.
Dr. Lotan is a Professor of Urology and with the Simmons Cancer Center at UT Southwestern and Chief of Urologic Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
He is also a holder of the Helen J. and Robert S. Strauss Professorship in Urology at UT Southwestern and Medical Director of the Urology Clinic at Parkland Health & Hospital System.
It is worth noting that the subjects self-reported their usual volume as less than 1.5 liters of fluid daily, which is about six 8-ounce glasses.
“These findings are important because more than half of all women report having bladder infections, which are one of the most common infections in women,” added Dr. Lotan.
Over a quarter of women suffer from secondary infection within six months of initial infection. Further, 44 to 77 percent will have a recurrence within a year.
In addition to increased water consumption, there are many other ways that people may reduce their odds of infection. These include the use of all-natural remedies like D-mannose, which works in binding with the UTI-culprit and eliminating it from the body.
It is worth noting that today, formulas like Purest Vantage D-mannose are widely resorted to by those with UTIs. This formula could be helpful in preventing the infection or its recurrence. There are even many who resort to its use as a safer alternative to antibiotics.
Purest Vantage D-mannose also had cranberry and dandelion extracts, and even comes with a customer satisfaction guarantee (http://amazon.com/Mannose-Capsules-600mg-Per-Cap/dp/B071J35CP5).
