(Newswire.net — March 21, 2022) Orlando, FL — Meat is a staple in many households around the globe. Researchers have been studying this food; especially how it impacts health.
A study was carried out by scientists from the University of Exeter.
In this research, the investigators showed food photos to over 700 individuals, including omnivores (who eat meat and other foods), flexitarians (who try to eat less meat), and vegetarians.
Around 7 percent of meat-eaters had a “fairly strong disgust response” to images of meat dishes, which are commonly eaten in the UK, like roast chicken or bacon. These 15 percent of people were made of 15 percent flexitarians and 3 percent of omnivores.
Researchers revealed that as a group, omnivores rated pictures of meat as about twice as disgusting on average as images of carbohydrate-rich foods like bread, chips, and rice.
The findings have led the investigators to suggest harnessing the “yuk factor” may be more effective than reliance on willpower for anyone who wants to reduce their meat consumption.
“We were surprised to find that so many people are grossed out by meat — even people who eat meat all the time,” said Elisa Becker, of the University of Exeter.
“Our results don’t explain why these people eat meat, but it’s possible that habits, family, and cultural traditions all play a part,” she added.
Generally, meat consumption is perceived increasingly as unsustainable, unethical, and unhealthy. A number of people also want to eat less meat.
The 711 participants involved in this study were 402 omnivores, 203 flexitarians, and 106 vegetarians. Each of them completed a survey and even took a rapid-response task, which measured instinctive reactions, to test their levels of “meat disgust.”
Meat consumption has been linked with some undesirable health outcomes. However, it is also worth keeping in mind that many of the nutrients it contains are vital for overall health and disease protection.
There are nutrients like B vitamins that can be found in meat. B vitamins have long been known to produce disease-fighting benefits. Inadequate levels of these nutrients are even found to produce undesirable health outcomes.
Individuals who want to take advantage of the healing goodness of B vitamins may take into account the use of formulas like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex.
It contains Choline, Pantothenic acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamin, and vitamin B6.
Through the use of this supplement, consumers are able to benefit from the therapeutic goodness of B vitamins without being exposed to the health risks linked with excessive meat consumption (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07414752B).
