(Newswire.net — August 7, 2020) Orlando, FL — Omega-3 fats can be found in certain types of fish, such as salmon, tuna, and sardines. These healthy fats have been thought to produce some life-altering health benefits, and may help to fight certain conditions.

A research study reveals that omega-3s may have the potential to lower blood pressure. These healthy fats are essential for the proper functioning and health of the body and brain. They have diverse health-promoting effects, and may have the potential to protect the nervous, immune, and cardiovascular systems.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is one type of omega-3 fats, DHA has also been popularized by its potential ability to offer a myriad of health benefits.

Toshinori Hoshi, PhD, Professor of Physiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and colleagues, demonstrated the possible effects of fish oil in reducing blood pressure.

His papers were shown in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. It was found that fish oil helped reduce blood pressure via vasodilation at ion channels.

According to experts, in vascular smooth muscle cells like the ones that line the blood vessels, ion channels are critical in maintaining proper vessel pressure. These ion channels span the cell’s outer membrane to allow such ions such as calcium, sodium, and potassium in and out.

Omega-3 fatty acids have the potential to directly bind to a specific group of channels, which allow potassium ions to move out. This is believed to affect the amount of voltage necessary in opening the channel.

Once omega-3 fats bind to the channel, it results in the small requirement of voltage. This is believed to be beneficial for a cell since an open potassium channel can mean that the cell is at rest.

It is also important to note that relaxed smooth blood muscle cells indicate that the blood pressure is at a good level. However, blood pressure increases when the vessels constrict.

According to researchers, DHA has the potential to reversibly and rapidly activate the channels through enhancing the currents by up to twenty-fold.

Individuals who want to maintain healthy blood pressure may want to consider incorporating fish oil supplements in their diet. There are fish sources available, but supplements typically contain higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids.

There are many people who turn to the use of fish oil for a variety of health purposes. Supplements are easy to administer on a daily basis, and they also have the potential to offer more therapeutic properties. (http://amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B00O8NS20K)
