(Newswire.net — September 23, 2022) Orlando, FL — Experts have been investigating on the various aspects of heart health. Studies are looking into its protective remedies while others are highlighting its association with certain diseases.

Research now warns against the link between high cardiovascular risk and depression in older adults.

The findings of this research were published in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by Sandra Martín-Peláez of the University of Granada, Spain, and colleagues.

Cardiovascular disease and depression are thought to be closely correlated due to similar risk factors, which include inflammation and oxidative stress. While it has been shown that depression could be a risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease, studies looking into the potential effect of cardiovascular health on developing depression are scarce.

In this new study, the investigators utilized data from an ongoing 6-year multi-center randomized trial in Spain. It analyzes the impact of a Mediterranean Diet on men aged 55-75 and women aged 60-75 with overweight or obesity.

The current analysis also included 6,545 individuals without cardiovascular or endocrine disease at baseline.

The study authors summed up that high and very high cardiovascular risk are correlated with depressive symptoms, especially in women.  Further, they add that further research must be carried out to decipher the role of other factors like adherence to the Mediterranean diet.

The authors add: “High cardiovascular risk, especially in women, is associated with symptoms of depression in the elderly.”

Today, more and more scientists are investigating on the various aspects of heart health. In addition to its link with other health issues, studies have also been highlighting the remedies potentially helpful for the heart.

The good news is that certain therapeutic spices like turmeric have been found to have cardiovascular health benefits.

It is worth keeping in mind that this remedy has a phytochemical called curcumin, which has genoprotective, antifungal, adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, antioxidant, anti-amyloidogenic, anti-cytotoxic, antibiotic, antimicrobial, anti-purulent, antitumor, immunomodulating, and anticatabolic agents.
