(Newswire.net — October 17, 2016) Orlando, FL — Suffering from a painful condition such as arthritis can bring many struggles and challenges. Unfortunately, having this condition may also make sufferers susceptible to other diseases.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may significantly increase the risk of diabetes. In a Canadian research, it was found that individuals with rheumatoid arthritis were 50% more likely to suffer from diabetes.

In the United States, there are many people who suffer from diabetes. Individuals with excess weight or who are obese are believed to be more prone to the condition. Managing diabetes is essential to decrease the risk of complications.  Rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes are two different medical conditions, and having both could bring a sufferer into a different level of difficult situation.

The Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases published a study that reveal individuals with psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune forms of arthritis are more susceptible to diabetes by 50%.

According to Daniel Solomon, MD, the study author from the Division of Rheumatology, Brigham Women’s Hospital, there are contributory factors in the increase of diabetes risk, such as age and body mass index (BMI).

Dr. Solomon added that individuals who are at risk of the condition should maintain a healthy weight, and lose extra pounds. There is a chance that RA inflammation is linked with insulin resistance.  Regular exercise is one of the best methods to achieve one’s weight loss goals. Since arthritis is a painful and debilitating condition, there are those who utilize pain medications to be able to exercise.

Pain medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are some of the most popular pharmaceutical drugs used by individuals with arthritis. The drawback in using these medications is that they may cause side effects.

While these medications may help arthritis sufferers work out and possibly maintain a healthy weight, they may also come with a heavy cost. One of the potential side effects of these medications is gastrointestinal bleeding.

The good news is that there are safer alternatives to these pharmaceutical drugs, and one is glucosamine. Glucosamine is a naturally-occurring substance in the body, and is thought to repair cartilage damage.

Glucosamine is also one of the natural joint health supplements that is gaining the interest and trust of many arthritis sufferers. It is side effect-free and may have the potential to strengthen the joint cartilage.

Some of the more notable glucosamine supplements contain other natural ingredients such as Methylsulfonylmethane, chondroitin, and turmeric.
