(Newswire.net — September 19, 2022) Orlando, FL — The scientific community continues to investigate the impacts of gut health on disease protection as well as the presence of certain symptoms.
A Montreal-based research team carried out a study, which was published in the Pain journal.
In this research, the investigators found a link between alterations in the gut microbiome and disease that involves chronic pain.
This condition is called fibromyalgia, which affects 2 percent to 4 percent of the population. It is also worth noting that this condition has no known cure yet. When it develops, it leads to symptoms like fatigue, impaired sleep, and cognitive difficulties.
However, it is most strongly characterized by widespread chronic pain.
In this paper, the investigators found alterations in the bacteria found in the gastrointestinal tracts of people with fibromyalgia.
Further, they found roughly 20 different species of bacteria in either greater or lesser quantities in the microbiomes of subjects suffering from the condition than in the healthy control group.
According to Dr. Amir Minerbi, they used a range of techniques, including Artificial Intelligence, to confirm that the changes we saw in the microbiomes of fibromyalgia patients were not caused by factors such as diet, medication, physical activity, age, and so on, which are known to affect the microbiome.
Dr. Minerbi is from the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), and the first author of the paper.
It is worth noting the team also included scientists from McGill University and Université de Montréal as well as others from the Research Institute of the MUHC.
“We found that fibromyalgia and the symptoms of fibromyalgia — pain, fatigue, and cognitive difficulties — contribute more than any of the other factors to the variations we see in the microbiomes of those with the disease,” he adds.
The findings have also shown that the severity of a patient’s symptoms was directly associated with the heightened presence or a more pronounced absence of certain bacteria. This, according to the investigators, is something that has never been reported before.
Having adequate levels of beneficial bacteria in the gut is vital for gut health. It is worth noting that there are formulas like Divine Bounty Digestive Enzymes formulated to deliver gut health-enhancing ingredients.
Divine Bounty Digestive Enzymes contain 500 mg of digestive enzymes, namely lipase, amylase, invertase, Glucoamylase, papain, and bromelain. It even has prebiotics and probiotics.
