(Newswire.net — March 17, 2022) Orlando, FL — Health authorities have long been stressing the importance of engaging in physical activities. Exercise has been found to not just enhance physical health, but also ward off certain mental health issues.
A study was published in the Journal of Affective Disorders.
It was spearheaded by Aaron Kandola, from University College London in the United Kingdom.
In this research, the investigators tried to unravel the myriad of factors that increase the odds of developing mental health conditions. Some factors like genetics are impossible to alter, but there are those that are modifiable such as diet and physical activity.
They look into physical fitness as a modifiable factor. More particularly, they investigated to see if cardiorespiratory fitness might be a useful intervention.
It is worth mentioning that cardiorespiratory fitness is used as a measure of the capacity of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems to supply oxygen to the body during exercise.
In previous research studies, investigators were able to establish that reduced physical activity is linked with a greater incidence of common mental health disorders.
According to Kandola, cardiorespiratory fitness can be expensive and impractical to measure, particularly in large groups of people.
Researchers said that they found a link between low and medium cardiorespiratory fitness and 47 percent and 23 percent increased risk of common mental health disorders. This is compared with high cardiorespiratory fitness.
More studies are still being encouraged to explore more of how the rates of mental health issues can be addressed.
It is worth noting that many studies have also looked into the therapeutic benefits of certain remedies like ashwagandha. This ancient medicinal herb has been found helpful for mental health, especially in fighting anxiety and depression.
According to experts, ashwagandha has been scientifically studied for its relaxing, calming, and sedative effects. These are effects helpful in offering relief from anxiety without the use of medications.
The use of ashwagandha has also been found to reduce fatigue levels and enhance concentration, vitality, and social functioning. When it comes to depression, this herb has also been found to help.
In some studies, researchers revealed ashwagandha had antidepressant effects. It has been able to stabilize moods and work in fighting anxiety linked with social isolation.
In multiple research studies, ashwagandha has been found to have adaptogenic, antidepressant, anxiolytic, antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenic, antimicrobial, cardioprotective, hypocholesterolemic, and anti-malarial potentials.
