(Newswire.net — June 27, 2018) Orlando, FL — B vitamins have long been known to be helpful for health, particularly in pregnant women. In some studies, it appears that the B vitamin called folic acid has protective benefits to offer.

According to researchers, mothers who consume the recommended amounts of folic acid around the time of conception may potentially decrease the pesticide-related autism risk in a child.

This study was conducted by the researchers from UC Davis and other institutions.

In this study, children had a significantly reduced risk of developing autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These kids had mothers who consumed 800 or more micrograms of folic acid.

It is worth mentioning that when the mothers were exposed to agricultural and household pesticides the risk was increased.

The study was published in the Environmental Health Perspectives journal.

According to Rebecca J. Schmidt, if the mom was taking folic acid during the window around conception, the risk associated with pesticides seemed to be attenuated.

Schmidt is the assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences and first author on the paper.

She added that mothers should try avoiding pesticide exposure. However, if they reside near agriculture, they may resort to measures that could counter those effects.

The paper used data from the Childhood Autism Risks from Genetics and the Environment (CHARGE) study.

It looked into 296 children belonging to ages between 2 and 5. These kids were diagnosed with AS and 220 had developed typically.

The research team also linked data from California Pesticide Use reports.

Women who had low folic acid intake exposed to agricultural pesticides before conception were found to be at a higher risk.

It is worth mentioning the use of folic acid has been linked with many other health benefits. Deficiency of this B vitamin has even been associated with the onset of various symptoms and conditions.

Adequate intake of folic acid and some other B vitamins can help improve health, and protection against a range of medical conditions. It may be particularly beneficial, not just for pregnant women, but also their children.

There are food sources of folic acid, but it may be more beneficial to use Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex.
