Singapore American School Hosts Inaugural Wellness Conference on August 28 and 29

(Newswire.net — August 7, 2015) Singapore, Singapore — August 5, 2015) Singapore, Singapore – Singapore American School (SAS) is hosting its inaugural Wellness Conference on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 3:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on the SAS campus. Themed “Inspiring Healthy People, Healthy Teams, and a Healthy Community,” the conference will feature experts in social and emotional wellness, fitness and exercise, medicine, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles.

The conference gives participants the opportunity to explore new scientific knowledge to balance mind and body, apply specific wellness concepts into their daily routines, and connect with like-minded participants who wish to enhance their own well-being.

SAS employees, parents, and the general public are welcome to attend and register for the conference online. 350 spots are available. Participants will learn to apply wellness concepts to their daily routines in workshops and breakout sessions, receive advice on nutrition, happiness, sleep, and exercise, and find out about the wellness scene in Singapore. They can connect with fellow participants and discuss how to share their knowledge with their colleagues, students, and communities. Participants will also enjoy goodie tote bags, healthy meals, and door prizes, and interact with local vendors from the Singapore wellness scene.

On Friday, keynote speaker Dr. Sharp is speaking on “Choosing Happiness – Why You Should and How You Can!” Holding a Ph.D in psychology, Dr. Sharp (a.k.a. Dr. Happy)runs a reputed Sydney psychology practice and an Executive Coaching practice, teaches at RMIT University, and is the founder of The Happiness Institute, dedicated to enhancing happiness in individuals, families, and organisations through positive psychology.

Speaking on “The Essences of Health: A Mindfulness-Based Lifestyle Program for Enhancing the Health of Students” on Saturday, keynote speaker Dr. Craig Hassed is a senior lecturer and coordinator of mindfulness programs at Monash University. He is interested in mindfulness-based stress management, mind­ body medicine, meditation, integrative medicine and medical ethics, and has authored books and articles on these topics.

Other conference sessions include “Implicit Theories of Interest: Following Your Passion or Developing It?” by Dr. Paul O’Keefe who runs the Mindsets and Motivation Lab at Yale-NUS, ”Eating to Feel Good and Perform at Your Best” by Jane Freeman, acclaimed dietitian and International Olympic Committee-qualified sports nutritionist, “Cross-Culture and Well-Being” by Dr. Maureen Neihart, National Institute of Education clinical psychologist and professor, and “Common Running Injuries and What You Need to Know About Them” by Dr. Benedict Tan, former Olympian and chief of Sports Medicine at Singapore Sports Medicine Centre and Changi Sports Medicine Centre.

More experts speaking at the conference on sleep, general nutrition, sports performance, mental acuity, optimal exercise regimes, and other topics include Dr. Kim Hayes, a family general practitioner for the Singapore expatriate community, National Institute of Education associate professor Dr. Albert Liau, psychologist and National University of Singapore assistant professor Dr. Jay-Lee Longbottom, Da Qiao Primary School principal Joyce Ang,health and neuroscience coach Marcel Daane, mindfulness trainer Jane Grafton, Light Love Laughter Academy founder Linda Loo, nutritional therapist Lisa McConnell, actress and host Nikki Muller, fitness educator Ursula Pong, orthopedic manual therapist and pilates instructor Belinda Ting, exercise physiologist and sports trainer Anna Tong, and nutritional therapist Pooja Vig.
