(Newswire.net — April 11, 2013) Los Angeles CA– Producer of Deaf and Hard of Hearing teen basketball film will release free discussion study guide with DVD to encourage youth groups, sports teams, churches, schools, and nonprofit organizations across the US and around the world to engage in meaningful conversations.
It was obvious to us following private strategic screenings including the U.S. festival premiere at the Texas Christian Film festival in Houston where the film won “Best Inspirational” film that something was needed to help facilitate discussions. The film created a vehicle that opened up unique and educational dialog between audience members. It was truly inspiring and encouraging to see all ages, both deaf and hearing audience members engaging in conversations where topics being discussed were both biblical and non biblical principles, said Producer, Director Darla Rae.
“One teen communicated through ASL and an interpreter that he identified with the struggle of one character who recognizes he’s not the best athlete, yet he perseveres and presses on toward the goal, while one adult audience member recognized the racism of the 60’s depicted in the film caused her to see the bigger picture, where the “R” word is not just about color. Racism like the film encompasses numerous layers while asking us all to open our eyes and become more aware of situations around us every day, realizing that we miss opportunities each day to pay it forward.”
Rae said “it’s a basic simple discussion guide which is useful for all audience members and groups. In addition we will also release a basic ASL alphabet chart to encourage the general public to learn some basic sign language. Recently I heard a story where someone was injured because nobody could communicate with a deaf young person. If someone could have even letter spelled basic words I believe the outcome could have been different. We make movies that Uplift, Motivate, Encourage, and Inspire audiences and Spirit of Love, the Mike “Stinger” Glenn story does just that.”
Keeping with the Mantra of the real life basketball camps which inspired the film, proceeds from group sales will benefit non profits that book private screenings and purchase 100 DVDs.
