(Newswire.net — March 24, 2021) Orlando, FL — As the rates of heart disease continue to increase, more and more experts are carrying out studies to look into the ways to fight this condition.

Scientists carried out a study and found that owning a pet may aid in maintaining heart health, especially if the pet is a dog.

The research first established baseline health and socio-economic information involving over 2,000 subjects in the city of Brno, Czech Republic, from January 2013 through Dec. 2014. It is worth noting that the researchers scheduled follow-up evaluations for five-year intervals until 2030.

In the 2019 assessment, the research looked into 1,769 subjects without a history of heart disease. The subjects were also scored according to Life’s Simple 7 ideal health behaviors and factors, as outlined by the American Heart Association.

These are the body mass index, diet, physical activity, smoking status, blood pressure, blood glucose and total cholesterol.

According to Andrea Maugeri, Ph.D., in general, people who owned any pet were more likely to report more physical activity, better diet and blood sugar at an ideal level.

Maugeri is a researcher with the International Clinical Research Center at St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno and the University of Catania in Catania, Italy.

“The greatest benefits from having a pet were for those who owned a dog, independent of their age, sex and education level,” she adds.

It is worth mention that the American Heart Association has released a scientific statement on the benefits of owning a dog and the reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease. The findings of the research were in line with this statement.

In addition to owning a dog, it is worth realizing that there are many evidence-based techniques to improve and protect the heart.

Surprisingly, probiotics have been found particularly helpful for heart health. Probiotics have long been reputed to work wonders in protecting and enhancing gut health. These beneficial bacteria have further been found useful in benefiting the heart.

It has been found to reduce blood cholesterol, especially among those with high LDL or bad cholesterol. It is worth mentioning that high LDL is one of the contributing factors of heart disease.

What makes these beneficial bacteria even more helpful for heart health is that they can also lower blood pressure levels.

Multiple research studies have shown that certain probiotics have been able to demonstrate their ability to have beneficial effects on blood pressure.
