Sugary Drinks, Fried Foods May Increase Odds of Sudden Cardiac Death

(Newswire.net — August 4, 2022) Orlando, FL — Various research studies have revealed that diet plays a significant role in disease prevention and longevity.

A study has even shown that a Southern-style diet may increase the odds of sudden cardiac death. Consuming a Mediterranean diet routinely, on the other hand, may lessen that risk.

The findings of this research were published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, an open-access journal of the American Heart Association.

Experts say that the Southern Diet is characterized by fried foods, added fats, organ meats, eggs, sugar-sweetened beverages, and processed meats like bacon, deli meat, and hotdogs. The Mediterranean diet is one loaded with fish, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes and low in meat and dairy.

“While this study was observational in nature, the results suggest that diet may be a modifiable risk factor for sudden cardiac death, and, therefore, diet is a risk factor that we have some control over,” said James M. Shikany, Dr.P.H., F.A.H.A.

Shikany is the study’s lead author and professor of medicine and associate director for research in the Division of Preventive Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

“Improving one’s diet — by eating a diet abundant in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fish such as the Mediterranean diet and low in fried foods, organ meats and processed meats, characteristics of the Southern-style dietary pattern, may decrease one’s risk for sudden cardiac death,” he said.

The researchers looked into data of over 21,000 individuals who were 45 years and older. The subjects were enrolled in an ongoing national research project called Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS), which is examining geographic and racial differences in stroke.

“These findings support the notion that a healthier diet would prevent fatal cardiovascular disease and should encourage all of us to adopt a healthier diet as part of our lifestyles,” said Stephen Juraschek, M.D., Ph.D., a member of the American Heart Association’s Nutrition Committee of the Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health Council.

Unhealthy foods have long been known to contribute to the body’s toxin levels, which may eventually wreak havoc on health. Individuals who want to reduce their system’s toxic burden may benefit from the use of activated charcoal.

More and more consumers turn to the use of superior-quality supplements like Divine Bounty Activated Charcoal. What makes this formula even more beneficial is that it is crafted according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines. This helps prevent adding the wrong ingredient or incorrect amounts of it. (https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Activated-Charcoal-Capsules-Whitening/dp/B071NZ5G56)
