(Newswire.net — June 15, 2014)  — Anyone can claim that Thai Massage or any other massage system is popular, But how do we know if this is really true? Fortunately the answer is quite easy. We just ask Google. There is a very useful search function called “Google Trends” which tells us the popularity of anything we can imagine.

Shama Kern, a prominent expert in Thai Massage and founder and director of Thai Healing Massage Academy, tells us that he has been doing research about the popularity of various massage therapies. He used a recent article by Cathy Wong, ND, in the Alternative Medicine section of About.com as a starting point. Wong lists the 10 most popular types of massage.

Says Shama Kern “The methodology is very simple. All you have to do is type the name of those 10 most popular massage sytems into the search bar of Google Trends, and you will get a graph which represents the interest in a particular massage therapy over the last 10 years.”

“Out of all 10 therapy systems”,  he says, “Thai Massage is clearly the front runner by a wide margin. The search result shows us graphically that the interest in Thai Massage has been steadily rising for the last 10 years.”

This is displayed in the Google Trends chart below.

“When we compare some other therapy systems with Thai Massage”, says Kern, “the only graph which has been going up steadily over the last 10 years is Thai Massage. All others show a flat or downward trend”.

When asked what the reason for this remarkable popularity growth might be, Shama Kern explains: “Thai massage has the advantage that it combines massage benefits with the benefits of yoga. Real therapeutic Thai Massage combines elements from massage, yoga, physical therapy and even chiropractic. So it is a highly versatile and effective system.”

He tells us that he is regularly approached by massage institutions from all over the world asking him for assistance in finding therapists trained in Thai Massage. “There is a lot of demand for this in spas nowadays”, Kern says. “Spa managers realize that they are missing out if they are not offering Thai Massage as a treatment option to their guests”.

There are three options to learn Thai Massage:

  • Nowadays there are several well established schools in the western world.
  • As an alternative many students prefer to travel to Thailand and study right at the source.
  • A third option is online or long distance video training which has been gaining popularity due to the lower cost and the convenience of learning at home and from anywhere in the world.

A more detailed explanation of these three options can be found in this article.
