(Newswire.net — January 24, 2017) Orlando, FL — Pain medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used by individuals who suffer from painful conditions such as arthritis. Since the scare in the possible side effects associated with their use has become widespread, more and more sufferers are turning to natural alternatives.

Turmeric is believed to be a safer, side-effect-free pain management option for arthritis. This potentially therapeutic spice has long been used to help fight a range of conditions due to the unique properties it contains.

Turmeric contains a polyphenol called curcumin, which is considered to be the major source of turmeric’s potential benefits. Curcumin is believed to offer anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, and anti-carcinogenic properties.

Pain and inflammation are among the symptoms caused by arthritis. Individuals who suffer from arthritis usually live with pain on a daily basis and suffer from a reduced quality of life.

There are arthritis sufferers who become unable to work because of the condition. Many of them turn to the use of pain medications to help achieve relief and improve their mobility. However, it seems that turmeric may offer a better potential in helping arthritis sufferers.

According to the most recent study published in the Indonesian Journal of Internal Medicine, curcuminoid extract may have successfully reduced inflammation in knee osteoarthritis sufferers.

In the study, the participants who suffered from knee osteoarthritis were divided into two groups. It was found that both curcuminoid and NSAID were able to significantly reduce the enzyme called inflammatory COX-2. The findings of the study could potentially mean that both options are equally effective in addressing knee osteoarthritis.

In another study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, it was found that the efficiency of 2,000 mg of turmeric may be comparable with an NSAID drug, especially in decreasing pain and inflammation caused by arthritis.

More studies are still underway to validate whether or not turmeric may be superior over pain medications. However, today, more and more individuals with arthritis are turning to the use of this ancient spice for potential pain relief.

There are many arthritis sufferers who claim that turmeric has helped them achieve pain relief and improved mobility. One of the possible benefits of using this natural supplement is that it is not associated with the side effects that may be caused by pain medications.

Some of the most popular curcumin supplements available in the market today contain a potential bioavailability-enhancing ingredient called piperine, which is a black pepper extract. This natural ingredient is believed to be effective in increasing curcumin absorption inside the body.
