(Newswire.net — March 24, 2015) Toronto, Ontario — Google recently posted to their blog that they a major algorithm change is coming that will revolutionize how mobile compatibility is determined. Beginning mid-April this new feature will be rolled out, and will affect how mobile search results are returned worldwide.
Google estimates that 60% of all searches are now made using a mobile device. Which means it’s makes perfect sense that Google should optimize how their search engine directs traffic for mobile users.
Google has made mobile compatibility a major factor in it search algorithms over the years. This means that websites that are optimized for mobile will rank higher than those that aren’t. This will remain true even in the user is on a desktop PC. Such changes shouldn’t be shocking to marketing experts and webmasters – in fact it offers an exciting opportunity.
The fact that Google is placing an increased importance on mobile and considering it in its rankings – won’t surprise many. However, that hasn’t stopped many in the industry from dubbing April 21st as “Mobilegeddon”.
It’s important to understand that most of Google’s updates are just simple tweaks and don’t affect search rankings that much. However, Google experts have been quoted that the new mobile-optimized algorithm will have more of an impact than either Penguin or Panda. As you may well remember, both of those launches sent ripples through the entire internet marketing community.
While we don’t know much about the update right now, we can think about what the impact of such a change will be. For example, we do know that Google will now consider mobile-compatibility as an important factor in determining search ranking.
However, we don’t know how dramatically these changes will impact current rankings. We can infer that those sites which aren’t mobile friendly will be the most affected in terms of visibility and discovery. This means that mobile optimization must become a priority when it comes to web design.
Google will also be rolling ranking changes in addition to the algorithm updates in April. The ranking changes will be based on data received from indexed APPS of logged-in users. This is expected to have a great impact on which search results are displayed and what types of result are given top ranking.
In the past, search results focused exclusively on websites, now future search results will place an emphasis on apps and mobile tools.
While it’s impossible to predict the full impact these changes have, we can expect that mobile optimization will become increasingly important.
