(Newswire.net — January 17, 2016) — Horrified, the swimming pool owner found herself face to face with a five-foot, black tip shark in her pool at a condo complex in Hypoluxo, reported the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FFW).
Commission workers promptly removed the shark from the pool and set it free in the Intracoastal Waterway.
The creature was discovered last week at the Mariner’s Cay condominiums, according to The Sun Sentinel. The woman who discovered the shark said to the officers that she saw two young men run out of the pool area, which is located near the shoreline of the Intracoastal Waterway.
Police are investigating the case and are trying to discover who put the live shark in the Florida swimming pool, why they did it and what their motive was.
Fortunately, the pool in which the shark was found, is surrounded by security cameras and the police hope this will help in the investigation.
“We’re not releasing any photos or additional information just yet, because it’s still an active investigation,” the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) told the Earth Touch News Network.
Blacktip sharks (Carcharhinus Limbatus) are saltwater fish and one of the most common types of sharks in the Florida seas and estuaries.
This is not the first time that something like this has happened. Last year, a rare baby whale shark was found in a local hotel swimming pool in the Maldives. The baby shark was just 1.5ft long but it is the largest known extant fish species and can grow up to 11.5ft!
The shark was found by fishermen near the A.A. Bodufolhudhoo community, it was their daily fishing catch and they intended to sell it. They let the baby whale shark swim in a salt water pool, fortunately, after only ten minutes in the swimming pool the shark was released close to where it was found.
