Contrary to what some of our current leaders believe, we cannot spend our way out of debt and the debt our current Congress is creating will crush America’s future. Rather than creating make-work projects that add to the country’s debt, Michel Faulkner believes the answer lies in freeing the ingenuity of average citizens from the bonds of government regulation and taxation. Our current focus on the job sector is directed to the unemployment numbers and the political advantage gained or lost with each rise and fall. These numbers are very misleading and don’t address the core problem. With approximately 96 million people employed in the private sector supporting a population of 309 million, the burden becomes much more apparent. The answer is more private sector jobs that will add real money to our nations economy. This is the laser focus of Michel Faulkner and we need his sense of urgency on this issue to make the necessary changes right now.
Jobenomics is the idea that this nation needs to do everything it can to promote the development of twenty million jobs over the next ten years or 20 by 20. Mr. Faulkner knows this goal is attainable because we have done it before and as recently as the 1990’s. Unfortunately, the first decade of the new millennium witnessed the loss of almost one million jobs.
Mr. Faulkner has seen the results of the current tax and spend mantra coming from Washington. The unemployment in the 15th District of Manhattan is 20% overall and much higher among minority men. His goal is to work with entrepreneurs and small businesses to bring them to his district to the tune of 42,000 jobs in the next ten years. Michel believes these jobs are there and can change the future of the 15th District. He also knows it will require a philosophical change in the minds of the politicians. Instead of vilifying businesses, government needs to find ways to encourage their development and growth.
Jobenomics takes a multi-pronged approach with entrepreneurs and small businesses playing the largest role. In addition, multinational companies setting up business units in the U.S. will play an integral part. The role model for this approach was developed in the 1990’s with the establishment of several manufacturing plants in the Southeast by foreign auto makers. Michel Faulkner knows we can recreate this job generating environment today and he is fighting to change the anti-business attitudes that are permeating the federal and state governments before it is too late.
