DUI is an acronym for Driving Under the Influence.

Often it is meant to mean Drunken Driving even though this is not the technical definition. Technically any time you drive while under the affects of anything which decreases your ability to drive is DUI.

All 50 states and the District of Columbia have a BAC (the amount of alcohol in ones bloodstream). In most states this is .08. There are however exceptions to this rule.   Congress has passed a national standard of 0.08 that links highway funds with compliance. This law is based on multiple researches.

Usually getting an attorney or pleading for a reduced charge is a waste of time and money. The judge will probably just give out the sentence and there’s nothing you can do about it. In many states even first offenders may be facing lengthy license suspensions and a weekend in jail.

Also something you should know is that sentences are getting worse and worse. Laws are getting more and more severe mostly due to various organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (also known as Madd).

If you don’t want to get in trouble then you might want to talk with a close friend or your parents so that in a situation you can just call them and they will drive you home or to wherever you’re going to go or set up a designated drives. As well probably should pick the pub or bar that is closest to wherever you are going to crash for the night. Or simply hold some money back to just call a taxi. All these are pretty easy ways to not get into trouble with drunk driving.
