New Crib Safety Standards

Salt Lake City, June 30, 2011:  Have you heard about the new crib safety standards?

Beginning June 28, 2011, all cribs made and sold (including resale through thrift stores and online auction sites, for example) must comply with new and improved federal safety standards, 16CFR 1219 and 16CFR 1220.  (from the Juvenile Products Manufacturer’s Association – JPMA).

New Federal Requirements make cribs safer in 5 ways:

  1. Improved slat strength
  2. Improved mattress support durability
  3. Prohibits traditional drop sides
  4. Require tougher testing
  5. Make hardware stronger

Kid to Kid buys and sells cribs that meet current safety standards.  Parents can earn cash for gently used cribs manufactured after June 28, 2011, or for cribs manufactured between July 2010 and June 2011 that have a Certificate of Compliance indicating that they meet the new Federal regulations.

“We cross check all items to the latest product recall list released by the Consumer Product Safety Commission”, mentioned Shauna Sloan, Founder of Kid to Kid.  “We take the new standards on cribs seriously and are committed to providing safe products for families in our community.”

Unlike most thrift stores, Kid to Kid has been able to continue purchase and sell safe baby equipment and toys from families who no longer need them, and to provide a reliable alternative for parents looking to save money on products for their children.  Kid to Kid franchise stores are equipped with a proprietary recall and safety lookup system that allows buyers to check for safety using brand name, model number, and/or product description for all types of products.  This careful screening allows Kid to Kid to cooperate with the CPSC in helping to eliminate unsafe products from the marketplace.
